About the HSMT
The Hamish Saunders Memorial Trust is a charitable trust. It was formed by family and friends of Hamish Saunders, a New Zealand marine geologist who died tragically whilst working on Pedra Branca, south of Tasmania, on 15 April 2003
Our mission
The Trust's purpose is to keep alive Hamish's strong commitment to marine conservation. To that end, it has a unique and highly focused mission: To nurture future leaders in the knowledge, conservation and management of marine (including island and coastal) environments
The fund
The Trust generates a fund which is awarded to two recipients annually. Volunteers are financially supported to participate in selected Tasmanian island survey programmes.
As a HSMT volunteer, you will assist experienced Tasmanian scientists in the surveys of flora and fauna and other aspects of the island's ecology. You will be required to contribute to the survey's objectives and to produce a brief report on the survey for DPIW and the Fund – including any comments you may have on the value of your participation and how future volunteer participation might be improved.
